Biography
Yueyue Gu, conductor and pianist, is currently studying at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin under Prof. Markus Stenz, also studies piano with Ton Nu Nguyet Minh and opera coaching with Anastasia Timofeeva.
In 2026, Yueyue will conduct a production of Poulenc Les Mamelles deTirésiasin Berlin. He will also launch a concert series of Winterreise together with tenor Hans-Georg Priese. He was selected to participate in the Järvi Academy.
As conductor, Yueyue has collaborated with orchestra including the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, the Orchester der Komische Oper Berlin, the Mozarteumorchester Salzburg, the HfM Hanns Eisler Symphony Orchestra, the Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra, the Shanghai Conservatory Chamber Orchestra, the Jiangsu Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra della Alpi and the Ettore Pozzoli Philharmonic Orchestra, etc.
In 2023, he made his conducting debut with the Jiangsu Symphony Orchestra in the season concert, where he simultaneously appeared as conductor, pianist, and narrator. In 2025, he conducted Johann Strauss’ operetta Die Fledermaus at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin. As assistant conductor to his Professor Markus Stenz for Wagners’s opera Götterdämmerung with the Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra.
Deeply committed to contemporary music, Yueyue conducted the award concert of the First Sino–British Youth Composition Competition organized by the Chetham’s Chinese Music Programme, led the Klangzeitort Zoom+Focus concert series in Berlin, and rehearsed composer Cheng Huihui’s opera Desert of water for the project Neue Szene VII at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. In 2026, he was selected for the conducting workshop of the Peter Eötvös Foundation, where he conducted the UMZE Ensemble.
Alongside his conducting career, Yueyue remains active as a chamber musician and pianist. In 2023, he toured with renowned Guzheng player Sha Yuan. As an opera coach and répétiteur, he has assisted in rehearsals of Idomeneo and Siegfried.
In 2025, Yueyue was selected as a finalist for Das Kritische Orchester, organized by the Forum Dirigieren. He has also received artistic inspiration and guidance from distinguished musicians including Maria João Pires, Thomas Adès, Johannes Schlaefli, and Lü Jia.
Yueyue was born in 2006 into a musical family in Heilongjiang China, his mother is a composer, father a trumpet player and chorus conductor, Yueyue began piano lessons at age 3. He studied piano with Prof.Ying Zhou from 2017. Admitted to the Comprehensive Music Theory at the Affiliated Middle School of the Central Conservatory of Music in 2018, he embarked on his conducting journey under Prof. Bing Chen while studying composition and musicology. In 2021, he entered the conducting major, continuing studies with Prof.Man Zhu and receiving long-term guidance from Prof.Christian Ehwald.
